self portrait
Using a mix of charcoal, black ink, paint, and permanent marker to make the foundation of the piece, I then scanned it into photoshop where I overlayed brush strokes for texture, drew various elements, and adjusted the contrast levels. I wanted it to feel like a piece that shows you how I feel rather than a literal illustration of myself.
Based on an original sketch by Matt Ammons for our Paces + Draw assignment.
I transformed the concept into a mixed-media illustration. Combining charcoal, hand-drawn marks, and digital layering to develop the character ‘Mr. Dorety’ into a vivid, chaotic portrait and animation.

I wanted to illustrate human states of being by focusing on a psychological descent. Each piece represents an internal state shifting from Envy to Greed, Pride, and finally Destruction. My goal was to illustrate emotion itself and how it builds, consumes, and eventually collapses.
Idea & Tone
Raw expression meets control.
Raw expression meets control.
Execution
Each piece is begins by hand using charcoal, ink, marker and paint, then refined in Photoshop with layered textures and digital brushes. Let imperfection shape the final form.

Atmosphere & Emotion
Dark, tactile, and human. Every mark holds tension between refinement and disorder.
